GANGWAYS
Not as verticle as ladders, not as horizontal as stairwells.  Used on spaceships and space stations as non-mechanical access between decks.

GEMINIS CLASS - TRANSPORTER
Common semi-luxury class vehicle used by commercial spacelines for scheduled and chartered flights between destinations in the Inner System.

GENERAL
Highest rank in the Ground Operations/Astrals and Base Operations/Security Services.   Equal to the rank of Fleet Admiral).

GEO
1).  Familiar term for the unit of currency in use throughout the United Network.   The GEO has replaced the respective Dollars, Euros, Pesos and such for each nation participating in the United Network and is frequently in use on the black markets of non-participating countries.   2).   Abbrev for Geostationary Earth Orbit.

GEO-BANK
The governing body of the largest functioning world banking institution.

GEOSTATIONARY POLAR ORBIT
Any orbit over a terrestrial pole which remains in place over a terristrial spot.

GEOSYNCHRONOUS ORBIT
A stable orbit in space over a planetary body where the motion of the vehicle exactly matches that of the ground below.

GEOSYNCHRONUS EARTH ORBIT
A stable orbit around the Earth which does not require the craft to remain in place above any one spot.

GLAVCOSMOS
The oldest Space Agency on the planet.  A slow moving bureaucracy still controlling Russian Space missions and largely responsible for the New Soviet Fleet Operations.

GLAVCOSMOS COMBAT CARRIER: STERNYKOV CLASS
The Sternykov class is the largest class of vehicles in the New Soviet Fleet (Glavcosmos).

GPO
Abbrev for Geosynchronous Polar Orbit. A stable orbit over one of the earth Poles.

GPS
Abbrev Global Positioning System.   A complicated network of signals emanating from a series of Geosynchronous satellites which through signal triangulation help pre-programmed receivers to estimate their navigational position.   More advanced units are capable of many additional functions.

GRAND DESIGNS
Corporation created by flamboyant entrepreneur Jimmy Grand which designed and built personal surface to orbit vehicles before merging with RIGEL Aerospace.   Grand Designs now specializes in Astrovonics and Avionics systems, consoles and interior cabins for Rigel and other companies.

GRAVITY REACTION PLATE
A thick panel device capable of generating gravity or counter-gravity waves.   Used to either levitate objects, repell craft from larger bases or to secure items (including people) in space as artificial gravity.

GRAV-PLATE(S)
Short term for Gravity Reaction Plates. Energy emitters generating interlaced waves of "weak" nuclear energy used to counter the effect of gravity or produce artificial gravity.  Powerful enough systems, given enough time, can lift their vehicles to Low Earth Orbit but are usually incapable of sufficiently braking a craft on re-entry.

GRAV-VEST
Small vest-like garment lined with outward faced rows of micro-gravity plates, use of which is capable of propelling an individual skyward in limited jumps while ensuring soft landings.   These units are power hogs with each power cell providing four full jumps or one hundred seconds of elevation at 10 meters height, so bring lots of spares.

GREAT BRITAIN
Historically a union joining under a shared Monarchy the nations of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.   When Ireland declared independence the fourth column of the union remained the North Ireland Ulster loyalists.   During the Eco-Crisis, while the shores of the island nation disappeared and North Ireland joined the Republic of Ireland, Great Britain languished as though ready to roll over and die.   Following Re-Constitution however Great Britain has grown to include the equal partners of New Foundland, Sahara, Falklands, Bermuda and Labrador.

GREEN LINE BATTERIES
A row of Arc Weapon Emitters along the Ulungar Valley in West China.

GROUND OPS
The branch of the United Network Space Command that controls Mobile Artillery, Surface Combat, Astral operations and performs most Peacekeeping duties.   In addition Ground Ops oversees aspects of Base Operations as well as Military Security.

GROUP COMMANDER
The Fleet rank just below Commander.   Frequently the Executive Officer on a larger craft, or the Head of a Department (IE: Engineering, External Operations, etc).   May command vessels larger than 50 meters (but not larger than 500 meters) when part of a Battle Group under a more senior (Flag) officer.
