FLUX DEITY
" THE BOOK OF LEWIS, 6 "

Lewis rolled over and something on the edge of his consciousness motivated him to open his eyes. There before him, sitting on the recliner was Parker, behind which was Daniel. It was then that Lewis realized he hadn't locked the door.

Slowly sitting up, shaking the groggy mid-day hood of sleep off his brain, rising and heading for the private washroom to splash cold water on his face, Lewis made for the point.

“What's wrong now?”

“We've got a Priest in the building, he's seen the angel, he wants to stay.”

A priest! “How long was I asleep?” Lewis said.

“An hour, maybe two,” replied Daniel.

“Didn't take long to complicate things, did it?”

“He was found by the Janitor. He was in the back alley. He'd been attacked by a chick gang. It's too coincidental for coincidence.”

“His words or yours?” Lewis asked.

“His. He seems all right about it. In fact he seems eager to meet God.”

“Who wouldn't be?” Daniel snorted. “Particularly when you work for Him!”

“That's not what I meant, he saw that Angel and a transformation went over him, didn't you notice?” Parker looked back at Daniel who rethought those moments.

“Come to think of it, yeah, it was like a shroud was lifted.”

“Wish that would happen to me,” muttered Lewis feeling groggier than before. He trudged back to the border sofa and sat, plunked more like it, and staring at them. No one said anything for a while.

“He's already seen it, he knows what's going on here. I think we've got to let him stay or we'll have all hell break loose.”

Lewis continued to think about it, all of the options were unappealing but the least objectionable was letting the Priest remain. “OK.”

Lewis rose and headed for the door as he smoothed his hair back and then briskly scratched his scalp hoping to kick start higher brain functions.

Outside, the sun was setting, and the spot on the border sofa where Trillium always sat to enjoy the sunset, seemed eerily vacant.
