As mentioned the KEYBADGE provides electronic information:
KEYBADGE acts as a short range (100 meter) communication link for intra-ship and local surface needs.
The IDENT SHIELD covers the external speakers (active when the EARPHONE is not operational).
The top of the NAME PLATE is the external Microphone.
KEYBADGE acts as an ELECTRO-KEY broadcasting the ID CODE of the wearer to all System Terminals and Access Doors for security control. Additionally, authorized personnel can use this transmitters to locate the wearer.
KEYBADGE has a micro-MEDI-SCANNER installed which supplies the MEDICO with continual updates on the wearers general health.
NOTE: On the GROUND TUNIC the KEYBADGE links with the CUFF-COMM automatically for Medium Range communication needs (direct signal feed for up to 100 million kilometers in a vacuum).
