16) Miracle Man
(Featuring Bruce Russell on Piano and Organ)

Why would you want to be a miracle man
if there was anything else you could do?
The other cheek that takes the back of the hand
as you move to the back of the queue, yeah?
Giving up all your pride to the opposite side
in the hopes of inspiring a few?
You’re better off to let the miracles happen to you.

Why would you want to be a miracle man,
always fighting to say what is true?
To look down later from the palm of the hand
and see how it’s all been misconstrued?
People painting things grey in their usual way,
but claiming you told them to?
You’re better off to let the miracles happen to you.

Now and then, there is a single blazing light,
burning true and fast and so amazing bright
that it illuminates this cityscape of night…
but when it does, we’re so ashamed that we run from the sight.

Why would you want to be a miracle man?
I suppose because someone has to,
and if it all comes to the usual end,
you will know you were one of the few
who heeded the call though asked to give all,
who saw it, and then saw it through.
We’re better off you let a miracle happen through you.
