Questions and Answers for Brides and Grooms:

Q When should you book the church?
A
As soon as possible; Canon Law in the Anglican Church of Canada requires that you give the Priest at least thirty days notice.   This is not nearly enough time.   When you have set your wedding date, you should call immediately and confirm the date with the church office and arrange for the initial interview with one of the Priest. This is usually from six months to one year prior to your actual marriage.

Q What happens at this first interview?
A
The clergy will fill out the Marriage Information Form and set up a file for your marriage.   He or she will confirm the date for the wedding and the rehearsal (usually on the night before the wedding) and be sure these dates are booked on the church calendar.   Setting up future interview dates may occur as well.   A copy of " Getting Married at Trinity Port Credit and Information for Marriage Preparation" will be given to you.   Other questions and concerns which you may have will be dealt with at that initial or a subsequent interview.

Q What is Marriage Preparation?
A
It is expected that every couple to be married in the Anglican Church will attend a Marriage Preparation course.  They are designed to help couples prepare for marriage.   We recommend "The Marriage Preparation Program" offered by Humancare.   This program is given by the Rev. Brian Murray and is supported by the Diocese of Toronto.   It is one weekend in duration (Friday night and most of Saturday) and is held in various locations throughout the GTA.   It is usually held at Trinity at least one weekend each year.   Registration Forms are available from the parish Priest, or the church office.
Check out their Web page at: www.MarriagePrep.com

Q What about divorced people?
A
The Anglican Church affirms the willingness of divorced persons to establish a covenant relationship with another person, and leaves the decision to marry a couple at the discretion of the priest performing the ceremony.

Q What about the wedding service?
A
The Book of Alternative Services has two services available.   On page 528 is "The Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage with the Holy Eucharist".   On page 541 is the Marriage service without the Eucharist.   The officiating Priest will work through these services with you and help you make decisions about the choice of Scripture Readings, etc.   After the details are discussed, the priest will provide you with a bulletin, making sufficient copies for those in attendance is the responsibility of the couple.   Bulletin covers may be purchased at most religious book stores.

Q Who is responsible for the Music?
A
The organist will work with the couple to provide a good standard of music for your wedding service.   You may invite your own soloist, or other instrumentalist, with the consent of the Priest and the organist.   PLEASE CALL The organist, Hallie Fishel at 905-278-1992 to arrange a time to meet her regarding your music.

Q And who arranges the flowers?
A
The bride may order her own flowers, or arrange for this through the Chancel Guild.   The cost of all floral arrangements will be the responsibility of the couple.  PLEASE CALL   Mrs. Barbara Coolen, head of the Chancel Guild, 905-274-3544, regarding setting up the church, And Mrs. Judith Rose, Flower Convener, 905-274-2151, regarding the flowers.

Q What about pictures or recordings during the service?
A
No flash photography is allowed while the service is in progress.   Photographs at other times (e.g., processing in or out and signing of the Register) is permissible at the discretion of the officiating Priest.   Signing the Register will occur in the church and during the service, so pictures taken at that time must be as it happens and cannot be posed.   It is the responsibility of the couple to inform the photographer of these rules.   It would be helpful for the photographer to confer with the officiating Priest before the service.   The use and placement of recording devices, including Video cameras must be approved by the priest at or before the rehearsal.

Q Who is responsible for the Marriage License?
A
The couple will be responsible for procuring a Marriage license.   These are readily available at most City Halls in the GTA.   The Marriage License must be obtained at least three days before the intended marriage, and they are only usable for three months.   The church would prefer to have the license a few days before the service.   It must be available at the rehearsal.   It is a good idea to leave the license with the officiating Priest when you get it.   One less thing to lose or worry about!   Banns of Marriage may be requested by members of the parish.   These will be read on three successive Sundays before your wedding day.

Q What costs are involved?
A
The Fee schedule is as follows:
For the use of the Church- $500 (this is waived for parish members)
    For the organist - $150
    Chancel Guild - $50
    Server if required - $25
    Caretaker- $50
Officiating Clergy is at your discretion

Please put the required fees in separate envelopes and designate the recipient, bring them to the rehearsal and give them to the officiating Priest.   He or she will see that they are distributed to the people involved.   If this fee schedule causes a financial hardship for the couple, please talk to the officiating Priest.

Please, no confetti or rice, etc. in the church.

The Church is not in the business of renting out the church hall for receptions.   It may however, be possible for church members to arrange for this use.   A separate contract and schedule of fees will be required for this usage.   Please discuss this with the Church Secretary or the Priest.
